Metal detectors are to be used in a bar which was the scene of a shooting last month.
Islington council suspended the licence of Dust, in Clerkenwell Road, after a 28-year-old man was shot in the leg outside on 20 September. Police had applied for the temporary suspension of the licence because of fear of further serious crime.
It has now told the owners they must take stringent precautions against gun and knife crime.
They have been told to install CCTV, run in conjunction with the police, inside and outside the venue and advertise the cameras. If a DJ or live music is playing everyone at the club must be searched for weapons with electronic hand-held wands.
The police are also to be given two weeks' notice of functions being held at the bar.
Donna Boffa, chairwoman of Islington council licensing committee, said: "The club had a very good record until this incident and its owner has cooperated fully with the new conditions.
"The police are also happy with the conditions and we believe this is the right approach to take."
A spokesman for Dust said they had agreed conditions with the police and councillors had been "more than happy" for them to reopen.
